I know what it is like to have plenty, and I also know what it is like to have nothing.
One day I was exercising brain cells trying to decide which of my expensive cars to drive to the Gulf for a weekend vacation. Seemingly, only a few days later, I worried that between the coins I had in my wallet, the console of my car, and our junk drawer, there might not be enough money to buy a gallon of milk for my four children.
I know both extremes of the financial spectrum. One is far better than the other, though they both can teach very valuable lessons about life and what is truly important.
By some accounts, currently almost 20 percent of Americans are not fully employed. Millions more are having to scale down, sell their dreams, and postpone retirement. Virtually everyone is concerned. This is not the American dream that we thought we would be manifesting in our adult life.
Despite what many "inspirational" leaders would like us to believe, bad things can happen to good people.
I know in my own experience, many of the toughest times I've experienced in business and in life were not the result of anything I did "wrong." Stuff happens, doesn't it? And here lately, when it rains it absolutely pours.
There is much that we can’t control, but there is much that we can. Especially as individuals. Attitude. Smiles. Hugs. Compliments. Expressions of real love and appreciation. And hope. Not the political sound bite, but the real thing. Because I am here to tell you that there is much to hope for, much to seek, much out there to achieve and relish!
