Recalibrate Warriors

feature from Recalibrate Today: Willie Nelson

Although you might not agree with Willie Nelson’s politics, you have to admit the guy can play a guitar and sing. “On the road again, I…” OK, I’ll just stop right there. But here’s something you probably didn’t know. In 1990 Willie Nelson filed bankruptcy owing the IRS over $16 million. The singer’s real estate in 6 states and all of his bank accounts were seized by the IRS. It’s time to give up – right? Sell your guitar, find a hole, crawl in, hide and just go away.

Not Willie Nelson.

Instead, he released a new double album set titled – get this – “The IRS tapes: Who’ll Buy My Memories”. The album’s profits went directly to the IRS and by 1993, Willie Nelson had paid off all his debts.

Closer to home, I have a friend who is an exceptionally accomplished writer and director. He is admired by his peers and enjoyed by his friends. A real stand up guy, dad, and husband. I met him right before my life went upside down and I had to recalibrate everything. As things spun out of control, I found myself listening to him tell me about what had happened to him.

Seriously abused as a child, now at middle age, he still woke up in terror at night, sweating and panting. Almost every night. He was then currently undergoing some therapy which he thought showed promise. He then told me that he was broke – that he had bankrupted from business deals that ended up not paying him. I was stunned. This incredibly talented, accomplished, witty professional showed ZERO anger or bitterness. Instead, there was nothing but a small, constant smile, sense of humor and… the peace that surpasses all human understanding.

This man was serving his Lord with all the talents and creativity he had – and doing so while undergoing a nightmarish life that no one even knew about. For that, he is hereby proclaimed to be a Recalibrate Warrior!
